Zoosk vs. Match: Which Dating Site Reigns Supreme?

By James Preece

When it comes to online dating in Australia, there are two main heavyweights – Zoosk and match.com. They are both heavy hitters with millions of members. We put them both to the test to find out which one is the best overall.

1. Features

Match.com and Zoosk have more features than you could ever possibly need. They both make it so easy to find other singles that you are interested in and then connect with them. Match.com has a very simple sign up process to help you write a profile, which gets you up and running quickly.

They also have a special guarantee with their six month memberships. If you don’t meet anyone in that time, you can ask for an additional six months absolutely free. Zoosk is very serious about ensuring the quality of the databases. They actively review every profile that gets created, to ensure it’s up the required standard.

This filters out the scammers and time-wasters before you even notice them. As well as this, they have a Photo Verification service that proves you are who claim to be your profile images. Zoosk has a much more modern looking interface and wins this round. Winner: Zoosk

2. Demographics

Zoosk’s and match.com’s members come from all walks of life, most of which are looking to start a new relationship. The majority of Zoosk’s members are aged between 20 and 35, with the average user being mid to late 20s.

Match.com has a wider range of members so it’s the perfect choice at any age. The male female split is approximately 56% male and 44% female. The winner in this category is match.com as they offer a larger database which ultimately provides more opportunities. Winner: match.com

3. User Base

Both match.com and Zoosk have very large databases, with many Australian members. Zoosk has one of the fastest growing databases of any other online dating company in the world with about 30 million members. There are approximately 250,000 members in Australia.

Match.com is a longer established site with over 60 million members worldwide and 100,000s of which live in Australia. Match.com currently has many more users overall, and therefore wins this round. Winner: match.com

4. Mobile Compatibility

Both Zoosk and match.com have functional mobile apps which you can download from either the Apple Store or GooglePlay. This also means you can use the apps on your tablet. With each of the apps you can sign up, browse members and explore the mobile optimised sites.

You can also upload photos using images you’ve already stored on your smartphone. Zoosk also allows you to log in directly from your Facebook account which makes things really easy to use. Zoosk has the number one dating app in Australia and takes this round. Winner: Zoosk

5. Pricing

Match.com and Zoosk both allow you to create a profile and browse the site for suitable matches. However, as with most online dating sites you will need to upgrade to a full membership in order to send messages or read any you might receive.

Match.com charges $54.12 for one month, $109.59 for 3 months or a special offer price of $170.46 for six months. In terms of value for money, it makes sense to choose the 6 months package. Zoosk upgrade fees are $31.95 for one month, £62.94 for three months or $80.94 for six months. Zoosk works out cheaper. Winner: Zoosk

6. Chat

Once you have signed up with a paid membership, Zoosk and match.com will allow you to search and then interact with anyone you wish. Zoosk offers all the usual options such as instant messaging plus sending winks.

Match.com makes it easy to chat to people you like, especially as you can run additional searches such as “Mutual Match”, “Reverse Match” and Keyword searches. There is also the “DateSpark” option to suggest cool date ideas which can serve as an icebreaker. However, Zoosk’s mobile app makes it so much easier to have a conversation and let’s Zoosk win in this category. Winner: Zoosk

7. Bottom Line

Both Zoosk and match.com provide world leading services, with beautifully designed interfaces and lots of dating features and tools that will make meeting other singles as easy as possible.

If you're looking for a site with fun and engaging dating features with a social media feel, Zoosk is the perfect pick for you. If your goal is finding someone that really matches you based on core compatibility, don't wait and sign up for match.com. It’s a tie!
