Important Online Dating Questions to Ask Before Meeting In Person
By James Preece
Online dating sites offer singles a fantastic opportunity to meet each other and with just putting a little effort in, you will be able to start going on dates quickly. However, you will want to make sure you are meeting the best possible matches. If you aren't doing a little quality control first, then you won't have the best possible dates.
So to make sure, I’ve put together some of the most important questions you should be asking before you even agree to see them. You don’t need to ask them directly, but if you can’t see the answer in their profile you should ask subtlety.
What Do You Actually Want From this Date?
This is a question you should definitely ask yourself before going on any dates. If you do not know what kind of people you are interested in, you will simply be overwhelmed by the choice when it comes to meeting singles on online dating sites. This situation could be compared to making a cake without knowing the ingredients. You need to have some idea of what you are hoping to achieve before springing into action, and therefore, work out who exactly you would like to date. What type of person are they and where do they live? What are their hobbies and interests, and what do they look like?
What Are You Looking For in a Relationship?
You should establish if they ultimately want to get married or are just after a new friendship. Of course, people can change their minds over time but it’s best to be on the same page from the outset. Timescales and plans can vary for everyone but sometimes people are very specific about things like commitment and future plans.
Do You Want to Have Kids?
Obviously, this could be a real deal breaker to many people, for instance if only one of you wants children and the other is certain they never will, there is not much continuing to get to know each other. You might also find out more about how well they get on with their own family, whether they're close to each other or hardly speak.
What Does Your Perfect Night Out Look Like?
Does their idea of a perfect night out fit yours, or do they love to go out clubbing, while you are more of a quiet night in type of person? Do they prefer lying on the sofa to going to the gym? It’s good to establish this as soon as possible and while opposites do attract sometimes, things are never going to work out if there are too many differences.
Should You Swap Phone Numbers Before the Date?
Some people are naturally a little reluctant to give their phone number to someone they don’t know. The problem then is that you will be unable to get hold of them if you happen to be running late or can not find them. That is the reason why you have to be a little trusting and swap phone numbers even before you meet. In a worst case scenario, you can always block their number afterwards if necessary.
How Long Are We Meeting For?
Another important thing you should be clear about is how much time you would like to spend on the date, as there is probably nothing worse than one of you rushing home early leaving the other disappointed as they were expecting a much longer meeting. I would suggest to keep the first date to no more than 90 minutes and if you like them, you can always arrange to see them again!
